Labor Day, September 6, 2004, 7:30 AM. Amid thunderstorms, and Tornado warnings, we woke to a huge sound, like a very close by thunderclap, that low frequency rumble and crash. The house shook for a couple seconds with windows rattling and we knew the tree in front of the house had fallen on us. We expected the worst. The first pictures show what we saw from our front window. It could have been a huge disaster. Others in the area had trees inside their house! But we and all inside the house, are OK. There is damage to the roof of the garage, and minor damage to our roofline directly in front, where the falling tree first made contact. It then slid along that roof edge and struck the roof ridge of the garage on almost a 90 degree angle, creating a slit in the roof a few feet long. It was raining out but not heavily, so putting a couple of coolers under the hole will catch most of the rain. The tree could have landed on the car, could have punctured a wall breaking windows, letting in the rain and elements. This could have been much worse. All that's left now is to call the insurance company, and tree removal service.
